An essential oil is a highly concentrated compound extracted from a plant that retains the natural smell and characteristics of that plant. The best oils come from plants that are researched and proven to be superior with a record of potency and effectiveness. The cycle repeats each growing season as seeds are collected from the heartiest plants that are grown in nutrient and enzyme rich soils without chemicals. Just like picking grapes for a fine wine, the best oils come from plants that are picked at the peak of their growth. For some floral essential oils, this means the flowers are harvested in the dark of the night. The next step in creating the essential oil is distillation. To be truly pure, the plant material must only come in contact with glass or stainless steel. And to get the most from the plant material, it must be distilled at the correct pressure, at low temperatures, and for the right amount of time for that particular plant. Finally, the oil should be tested by an independent laboratory to verify the purity and potency.
Now that you’ve got a pure oil, what can you do with it? Many essential oils are safe and beneficial to use on the skin. You can use those oils directly on your skin or add them to unscented soaps and lotions to create your own signature blend. The essential oils that come from plants, fruits, and spices used for cooking can be used for seasonings on food, in juice, or in water. I love the refreshing and uplifting taste of a couple of drops of lemon and peppermint in my stainless steel water bottle! The oils can also be diffused into the air or mixed with water and witch hazel extract to make a spray. Choose the oil to fit your mood. For a calming and comforting atmosphere, choose cedarwood. Geranium is distilled from the fragrant flowers and leaves and encourages peacefully spiritual feelings. Ylang ylang is perfect for diffusing to enjoy its romantic and relaxing aroma. Sacred frankincense is ideal for those that want to enhance their spiritual journey and meditation experiences.
