Moving your body is very important for your physical and emotional wellness. Your body’s lymphatic system depends on movement so that it can clear toxins out of your body. And of course, movement helps you burn calories and maintain a healthy weight. If you’re not ready for the gym, a run, or a workout video, here are some clever ways to sneak in some fitness.
Exercise While Watching the Screen
If you’re watching TV or something on a screen, add some movement. Try a simple knee lift or bounce on a rebounder. There are also small portable stair steppers that you can use. Challenge yourself to hold a plank or do sit-ups during commercial breaks. If your sitting in chair for a long time on a trip, you can help your lymphatic system by gently bouncing up and down in your chair. You can also just raise and lower your heals, hold your stomach in, or push yourself up a bit with your arms.
Take a Walk
Even if you have an office job that requires you to be at your desk much of the day, you can still add some movement. Rather than sit at your desk and read after you eat lunch, take a walk. Go have a conversation with a co-worker in person rather than sending the communication electronically. Park a little further away than usual, and enjoy being outside.
Take the Stairs
Taking the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator is a great way to get your heart rate up and get some exercise. If you’re taking an escalator and there aren’t stairs readily available, you can walk up or down the escalator. If it’s too crowded to do that, you can do some type of leg movement or calf raises.
Socialize While You Exercise
Rather than meet for coffee or a drink, take a walk or a run while you socialize. Or meet at the gym and spend time on a treadmill or elliptical machine while you connect. This is a great way to spend time with friends and burn calories rather than spending money on food and/or drink and putting on the calories.
Walking Meetings
Rather than sitting in an office or conference room, suggest that you have your meeting while walking. The fresh air and movement can inspire creativity. And the break from the office environment can help your emotional well being.
Did this help you? If so, I’d greatly appreciate it if you commented and/or share it on social media.
