Having and maintaining healthy white teeth can help you feel and look younger. It’s the enamal on the outside of your teeth that is white. As you age, it’s normal for your enamel to thin and for your teeth to get discolored. Your diet and lifestyle can contribute to discoloration of your teeth too. Conventional teeth whitening prodcuts can be harmful to your tooth enamel and gums though. So here are some natural teeth whitening techniques to try.
Light Therapy
Red and blue light therapy has been used in natural dentistry for awhile. It is now widely used for all types of natural resortation and healing. In denistry, red light therapy may help with teeth sensitity and reduce gum inflammation. Blue light therapy helps to kill bacteria without harming your gums. When red and blue light therapy is used together, it may help whiten your teeth and improve your oral health.
Clays
Kaolin and bentonite clay are rich in minerals and contain natural bleaching agents. They are also naturally antibacterial, so they may help you reduce cavaties, and boost your oral health. The minerals in them may help strengthen your teeth. You can try it by mixing a little water with the clay powder until you end up with a paste you can use for brushing. You can add a food grade essential oil, like peppermint or spearmint, for a refreshing sensation.
Activated Charcoal
Because activated charcoal is absorbant, it can be used to absorb toxins, bacteria, and plaque, that can stain your teeth. Many natural toothpastes contain charcoal for these reasons. Plus it has the ability to remove stains and naturally whiten your teeth. It is not recommended to use activated charcoal by it’s self as a paste though, because it is abrasive.
Baking Soda
Baking soda can be mixed with water and used as a paste to make your mouth less acidic. It can also help reduce the bacteria in your mouth and whiten your teeth. Many commercially avaialbe toothpastes contain baking soda because it is effective at removing stains and plaque.
Oil Pulling
Oil pulling can help whiten your teeth, remove toxins, and reduce bacteria in your mouth. Use a tablespoon of organic coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth for about 20 minutes. The lauric acid in coconut oil makes it highly effective at removing bacteria and plaqye, but you can use organic olive or sesame oil too. Do not spit it out in your sink because it can clog your pipes. Brush your teeth afterwards to fnish removing toxins.
