Most essential oils come from distilling plants that are harvested at the exact day and time the plant is producing the full spectrum of chemical constituents that it has to offer. Low pressures and temperatures are used for distilling over a time period that varies by species of plant. Citrus oils though, are cold pressed from the peels of the fruit. The best essential oils come from verified beneficial seed species and are carefully grown using proper soil preparation, responsible weed and pest control, and wild craft harvesting. The final step is to have the oil independently tested to ensure it contains optimal levels of natural bioactive molecules. One very useful and amazing essential oil is Lavender. It can be diffused for a comforting, calming, clean, fresh scent. You can use it to unwind in the evening by putting a couple of drops in a nice warm bath. Or add it to an unscented lotion or shampoo to experience it in another way.
Another good everyday oil is peppermint. One drop of 100% pure peppermint essential oil is the equivalent of drinking 26 cups of peppermint tea. The benefits of the essential oil are similar to a hot or cold tea. It can be comforting to the digestive track, refreshing, uplifting, and cooling. I add a drop of peppermint to my metal water bottle along with two drops of lemon for a refreshing break during a workout. Lemon enhances the flavor of foods and water. I also use a drop or two when I rinse my fruits and veggies and it seems to make them last longer. You can use lemongrass essential oil in the same way. Frankincense essential oil has been used for thousands of years in a wide variety of ways. It has an earthy, balsamic scent. It is grounding when diffused. Or it can be added to a vegetable oil for use after bathing or for a massage. The world of essential oils is big and continuing to grow as new oils are produced and on-going scientific research explores their chemistry and capabilities.
