Cauliflower – Good News – Bad News

I recently saw an inspiring recipe article for grated (also known as riced) cauliflower that encouraged followers to spice up the cauliflower in a variety of regional spices that were very yummy.  Basically cauliflower can act as a neutral substrate, kind of like tofu,   I personally don’t do very well with cauliflower.  So what is the bottom line?

Turns out Cauliflower, like broccoli, kale and cabbage, is part of the cruciferous family of vegetables.  Cruciferous vegetables contain compounds that may lower the risks of some cancers; however, cauliflower can not be so positive for some.  Cauliflower contains purines. Purines are naturally occurring substances found in various foods. Purines are broken down in the body to form uric acid. An excess of purines triggers a gout attack in sensitive individuals, and may form kidney stones. If you suffer from gout — a condition caused by deposits of uric acid in your tissues — avoid purine-rich foods such as cauliflower to avoid aggravating your condition,
